Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our local classes, digital app, retreats, and private care.
Local Community Classes
I’m brand new to yoga or somatic movement. Are these classes suitable for beginners?
Yes, completely. Our classes are non-performative and focused on down-regulating your nervous system rather than achieving complex physical poses. Whether you choose Yin, Yin Yang, or Pregnant & New Parent Yoga, every movement is accessible, gentle, and easily modified for your body.
What should I bring to an in-person class in Maryville?
All core props—including yoga mats, bolsters, blocks, and blankets—are provided for you at the Community Yoga Center. You are welcome to bring a water bottle and your own mat if you prefer. For Pregnant & New Parent Yoga, please also bring your baby carrier, milk/water, and your baby’s favorite toys.
What if my baby cries or gets fussy during Pregnant & New Parent Yoga?
Real life is expected and fully welcomed in our space. Babies cry, nurse, sleep, and move around—we simply flow through it together. You are always free to pause, feed, soothe, or change your baby, and return to your practice whenever you feel ready.
Do I need to sign up in advance?
Because space at the studio is limited to keep our gatherings small and held, pre-registration is strongly encouraged to reserve your mat. You can view the weekly schedule and sign up directly through the link on our Services page.
The Studio App
How long are the practices in the app?
Practices range from brief 2-minute micro-resets to 10-minute grounding flows and longer restorative sequences. They are intentionally designed to fit into unpredictable family routines and busy mornings without requiring an hour of quiet time.
Do I need a yoga mat or special equipment to use the app?
No. Most practices are created for real-life home environments. You can move on your living room rug, in a chair, or right on the floor alongside your children.
Can I cancel my app subscription anytime?
Yes. You can cancel your subscription directly through your account settings at any time without hassle or commitments.
Retreats & 1-on-1 Coaching
What is the difference between 1-on-1 coaching and attending a local class?
Local classes offer general group movement and co-regulation in a shared community space. 1-on-1 coaching is a private, personalized partnership where we look specifically at your unique nervous system pattern, daily home rhythms, and personal seasons of transition to build sustainable somatic care tailored entirely to you.
How do I find out about upcoming maternal retreats?
Our retreats are small-scale, intimate weekend gatherings designed to give mothers true sanctuary and rest. Space is intentionally limited. You can join the Retreat Interest List on our Services page to receive first access to dates, locations, and enrollment details.
General & Approach
What does "somatic movement" mean in your practices?
Somatic movement is internal, body-led awareness. Rather than focusing on how a pose looks from the outside, somatic practices focus on how movement feels from the inside—helping discharge stored physical tension, balance the central nervous system, and restore a sense of safety within your own body.
